The following Supplication may be used after the Lord’s Prayer in the Litany, also on Rogation Days, at penitential seasons, and in times of trouble.

O Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
Neither reward us according to our iniquities.

O God, merciful Father, you do not despise the sighing of a contrite heart nor the desires of the sorrowful: mercifully help us to pray in the midst of all our troubles and adversities, whenever they oppress us; and graciously hear us, that those evils, which the cunning and mischief of the devil or man work against us, should be brought to nothing; and by the providence of your goodness they may be dispersed; that we your servants, being hurt by no persecutions, may for ever give thanks to you in your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Lord, arise, help us, and deliver us for your name's sake.

O God, we have heard with our ears, and our forebears have told us, the wonderful works you did in their day, and in the old time before them.

O Lord, arise, help, and deliver us for your honour.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son; and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. AMEN.

From our enemies defend us, O Christ.
Graciously look upon our afflictions.

Gaze with compassion upon the sorrows of our hearts.
Mercifully forgive the sins of your people.

Favourably with mercy hear our prayers.
O Son of David, have mercy on us.

Both now and for ever condescend to hear us, O Christ.
Graciously hear us, O Christ; graciously hear us, O Lord Christ.

O Lord, show us your mercy.
As we put our trust in you.

We humbly entreat you, O Father, mercifully to look upon on our weaknesses; and for the glory of your Name turn from us all those evils that we have justly deserved; and grant that in our troubles we put our whole trust and confidence in your mercy, and for ever serve you in holiness and purity of life, to your honour and glory; through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

The Litany ends with the Prayer of St Chrysostom and the Grace

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom

Almighty God, you have given us grace to bring before you with one accord our common supplications; and promise that when two or three are gathered together in your name you will grant their requests; fulfill now, Lord, the desires and petitions of your servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. AMEN

The Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen. 2 Corinthians. 13. 14.

GENERAL CONFESSIONS

Almighty God, Creator of all, you marvelously made us in your own image; but we have corrupted ourselves and damaged your likeness by rejecting your love and hurting our neighbors. We have done wrong and neglected to do right. We are sincerely sorry and heartily repent of our sins. Cleanse us and forgive us by the sacrifice of your Son; Remake us and lead us by your Spirit, the Comforter. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Almighty, most merciful God, we humbly admit that we need your help. We have gone our own way, not loving you as we ought nor loving our neighbor as ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed and in our failure to do what is right. We deserve your condemnation. Father, have mercy upon us and forgive us. Wipe out our sins and teach us to forgive others. Bring forth in us the fruit of your Spirit that we may live new lives to your glory. This we ask in the name of Jesus our Savior. AMEN.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we have sinned against you and our neighbor. We have walked in darkness rather than in light; we have named the name of Christ, but have not departed from iniquity. Have mercy upon us, we implore you; for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ forgive us all our sins; cleanse us by your Holy Spirit; quicken our consciences; and enable us to forgive others; that we may hereafter serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your holy name. AMEN.

Most merciful Father, our Creator and Judge, we acknowledge and confess that we have sinned against you by thought, word, and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart; and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We earnestly repent, and are truly sorry of all our sins. For your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’ sake forgive us. And strengthen us to serve and obey you in lives wholly renewed by your Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

OCCASIONAL PRAYERS

These prayers may be used, as occasion may serve, in Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer before the Prayer of St. Chrysostom; in the Alternative Forms of Morning and Evening Worship before or after the Lord’s Prayer; in the Litany before the Prayer of St. Chrysostom; and in The Holy Communion after the Collect of the Day or before the Blessing.

THE WORLD

For Peace

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed; Kindle in the hearts of all people the true love of peace, and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the world; that in tranquility your kingdom may go forward until the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Almighty God, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, king of all; Govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and rent asunder by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

For the Nations of the World

Almighty and everlasting God, we rejoice that you are the sovereign Lord that rules over all: may the nations of the world hear your voice and the peoples acknowledge you. Banish the darkness of sin and unbelief. Break down every barrier that stands in the way of the triumph of your Word and gospel and hasten the day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. We ask this in his name, and to his glory. AMEN.

For North America

Almighty and merciful God, who in the days of our forebears gave to this land the blessing of your holy Church; Do not withdraw, we pray, your favor from us, but so correct what is wrong and supply what is lacking, that we may more and more bear fruit to your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

PASTORAL

For Catechumens

O Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd, you laid down your life for the sheep; mercifully receive this brother into your fold. Join him with your own flock, and lead him to the pleasant pastures of everlasting life; for thy mercy’s sake. AMEN.

For Candidates for Confirmation

Bless, we pray, heavenly Father, those soon to present themselves here, to make their profession of faith in your Son Jesus Christ, acknowledging him as their Savior and Lord before your people, and confirming for themselves the promises made on their behalf at their baptism. Grant that their profession of faith will be a true one. May they always be unswerving in their devotion to the One whom they now call Master, Teacher, and Friend. Keep them always obedient to your holy will and commandments, and faithful in the fellowship of your Church, and in the service of your Kingdom, to the glory of the great Head of the Church, our Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN.

A Prayer in Time of Drought, Flood, or Wildfire

All things look to you, O Lord, to give them food in due season: look in mercy on your people, and hear our prayer for those whose lives and livelihood are threatened by drought (or flood or fire). In your mercy save both man and beast. Guide and bless the labors of your people, that we may enjoy the fruits of the earth and give you thanks with grateful hearts. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN.

In a Time of Disaster

Lord Jesus Christ, you once used the tragic death of the eighteen upon whom the tower of Siloam fell to warn us that those whom disaster strikes are not worse offenders than all others; and that unless we repent, we will all likewise perish. Let us take this warning to heart in the light of the recent earthquake/flooding/hurricane/mud slides/tidal wave/tornado in …, and turn from our sins. Comfort and relieve those affected by that disaster. Help them to rebuild their shattered lives. May they also be put in mind of their need for repentance, and may they come to receive that forgiveness of sins that can only be theirs by faith in you. This we ask for your name’s sake. AMEN.

Rain

God our heavenly Father through your Son you promised to those seeking first your kingdom and your righteousness all things necessary for their bodily welfare: send us, we pray, in this time of need, rain to water the earth, that we may receive its produce to strengthen and sustain us and always praise you for its bounty; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

For Children

Lord Jesus Christ, you embrace children with the arms of your mercy, and makes them living members of your Church: Give them grace, we pray, to stand fast in your faith, to obey your word, and to abide in your love; that, being strengthened by your Holy Spirit, they may resist temptation and overcome evil, and may rejoice in the life that now is, and dwell with you in the life that is to come; through your merits, merciful Savior, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

For Christian Teachers

Almighty Father, you sent your only Son that all people might be saved: Enable those who teach so to consecrate their lives that, being themselves led by you, they may lead the children in their charge in the paths of everlasting life; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. AMEN.

Have compassion, Lord, on all who are poor and homeless or who live in overcrowded conditions; give them strength and hope and keep them close to you. Help us to work and pray for the day when all your children are housed and healthy, and free to live full and happy lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who had nowhere to lay his head. AMEN

For the Hungry

Lord, we lift up to you the hungry people of the world. May the love of Christ move the hearts of all who have much, to share with all who have nothing, for it is in sharing that we are blessed. And move us to give generously to those in need, not only of our money but also of the abundance of our stores, so that no child of God will suffer want, when there is so much around. Grant this our prayer, for your name’s sake. AMEN.

For Prisoners

O God, you spare us when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remember mercy: we humbly pray that you, of your goodness, will comfort and succor all prisoners. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your warnings and promises, that they may put their confidence in you, and in you alone. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, and awaken the guilty. AMEN.

In the Ember Weeks, to be said very day, for those that are to be admitted into Holy Orders

For Unity

O God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Savior, the Prince of Peace: Give us grace seriously to lay to heart the great dangers we are in by our unhappy divisions; take away all hatred and prejudice, and whatever else may hinder us from godly union and concord; that, as there is but one Body and one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may be all of one heart and of one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and one mouth glorify you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: Regard not our sins, but the faith of your Church, and grant it that peace and unity that is agreeable to your will; who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
